Coming soon — a new book
From Goals to Growth
For stressed out leaders who know where they are is not where they are meant to be.
by Jed Smith

The book
The success of your goal is held hostage by the growth you refuse to face.
No one tells you that achieving a goal feels like catching a firefly. You peer into your hands with awe at this treasure — and then, whoosh. The pride is gone, and you're already chasing the next one, praying it lasts longer.
From Goals to Growth is written for leaders who have been wounded by their own success. It names the gaps where we've quietly confused two very different things, then rebuilds the person who can both reach the goal and carry it.
“You don't have to chase fireflies anymore.”
Part one
The Crucible
A crucible is a container built to hold the kind of heat that reveals and destroys whatever is untrue. The first five chapters name five gaps between the life you report and the life you're living. First we examine. Then we build.
Chapter 1
Goals ≠ Growth
What you're chasing is wrong
Goals can be hit by the same person you've always been. Growth requires you to become someone new — and not all growth is good growth.
Chapter 2
Image ≠ Identity
Who you think you are is wrong
The version of you that everyone applauds is not the same as the person underneath. One is maintained. The other is formed.
Chapter 3
Intention ≠ Action
What you do doesn't match what you say
Announcing the goal gives you the chemical reward of achieving it. That hit is exactly what keeps you from the work.
Chapter 4
Avoidance ≠ Assignment
You're delaying the thing you were made for
Name the conversation you've been avoiding, then run the real cost of delaying it — at work and under your own roof.
Chapter 5
Stress ≠ Success
You're paying for a life of compromises
Exhaustion is not evidence of faithfulness. Somewhere along the way you started paying for your success with pieces of your life.
Part two
Then we build
Once the gaps are named, the second half turns the heat into structure — the habits, decisions and relationships that make growth something you keep.
Who it's for
This book is for you if…
- —You're the responsible one, the capable one, the one who does the work in service of others.
- —Externally you look like you have it figured out — portfolios, projects, deadlines, people.
- —Internally, the pause at the end of the day feels heavier than the day did.
- —You know part of your struggle is that you've been avoiding the very thing you know must be done.
And honestly, not for you if…
- —You only want encouragement and warm fuzzies, not the momentary pain of honesty.
- —You're more committed to your offence and victim mindset than to letting the burden go.
- —You can name why you're stuck, but you won't own your portion of the work.
You're not the right reader because of your success, or even your wound. You're the right reader because, despite both, you're still willing to grow.
How you read it
The RAMP practice
Every chapter ends with four prompts, plus a section that pushes the work beyond you and into the people you lead — at home and at work. Do the work; don't just read it.
Reflect
Answer honestly, especially when honesty costs you something.
Attitude
Check the posture you're carrying into the work before you start it.
Mindset
Surface the belief underneath the behaviour you keep repeating.
Practice
Do the work at least once. Reading about change has never changed anyone.
